What to Expect at an FMS Financial Services Seminar

Thinking about retirement often starts with a few big questions: Have I saved enough? When can I stop working? How will I turn what I’ve saved into income?

Our seminars give you an opportunity to explore those questions, get to know our team, and learn how we approach retirement planning. Whether retirement is years away, just around the corner, or already part of your life, the conversation centers on making a plan that fits your needs and goals.

A Practical Introduction to Retirement Planning

We begin by explaining how we help people build a financial plan. We detail how that process starts with listening—understanding your goals, reviewing your financial picture, and discussing what matters most to you.

From there, we explain how our review process digs into how your savings and investments can support those priorities. Our financial planning approach considers your income needs, comfort with risk, and need for access to your money. Your plan should also have room to adjust as your life changes.

During the seminar, we introduce these ideas in everyday language, using examples to make the conversation easier to follow. You don’t need a financial background to attend.

Understanding the ABCs of Money

A central part of our presentation is the ABCs of Money, our way of organizing a conversation about three categories: cash, annuities, and market investments.

We discuss the different roles these categories can play and the tradeoffs involved, including access to your money, growth potential, and risk. The point is to help you think about how different parts of your savings might work together.

Someone still building retirement savings may have different priorities than someone who needs income today. Understanding those differences helps explain why planning starts with your individual situation.

Connecting the Concepts to Real Decisions

Throughout the presentation, we use examples to explore the choices people face before and during retirement. One looks at how a market downturn can affect someone who has started taking withdrawals. Others illustrate why a decision like paying off a mortgage depends on the person’s broader financial picture.

We also discuss questions such as:

  • What should I consider when choosing a retirement date?

  • How might Social Security fit into my income plan?

  • What are my options for a retirement account when I leave a job?

  • How can I plan for both retirement income and the assets I hope to leave to loved ones?

These discussions introduce the considerations behind each decision. A more detailed conversation about your own circumstances can happen individually.

Time to Ask Questions and Meet Our Team

After the presentation, there’s time to enjoy a meal, ask questions, and talk with our team. You’ll also have an opportunity to share feedback and request an individual appointment if you’d like to explore your situation further.

That follow-up meeting starts with your goals and a snapshot of your savings, investments, income, and expenses. It’s a chance for us to listen and help you understand potential next steps.

Our goal for the seminar is simple: for you to leave with a clearer understanding of your options and useful questions to bring to your own retirement planning.
