What to Expect From Your Annual Review at FMS Financial Services

A year can bring meaningful changes to your life and your finances, as well as external changes in the world and the economy. You may be getting closer to retirement, making a major purchase, helping a family member, or simply thinking differently about how you want to spend the years ahead. Your annual review gives us time to talk about those changes and consider what they mean for your financial plan.

At FMS Financial Services, we reach out by phone or letter when your accounts reach their anniversary. That milestone is an opportunity to review your portfolio, answer questions, and look at how it fits into your overall financial picture.

As your financial professional, I want you to leave that conversation with a clearer understanding of where you stand and what comes next.

We begin by looking back at the past year. Together, we review your portfolio’s performance and account activity, including any withdrawals, contributions, or other transactions. We discuss what changed, how your portfolio works, and any questions you have about your statement. Looking at performance alongside account activity helps put changes in your balance into context.

Just as important is hearing what has happened in your life. Have you retired or changed jobs? Taken on a new expense? Started drawing income from another account? Even decisions that seem separate from your current portfolio can affect your income needs, available savings, and priorities. Sharing those updates helps us understand whether your current approach still fits.

We also review your allocations and beneficiaries. That includes discussing how your money is allocated, whether your available choices remain appropriate for your goals, and whether your comfort with risk or need for access has changed. We check beneficiary designations with you so you can identify updates needed after a marriage, death, or other family change.

Required minimum distributions, or RMDs, are another part of the conversation. We review whether any apply to your retirement accounts and whether distributions need to be established or adjusted. If you have already taken withdrawals or hold retirement accounts elsewhere, those details help us understand what still needs attention.

Throughout the review, we connect these details to your broader plan. Our ABC Planning Process helps us discuss the roles of Cash & Liquidity, Protected Growth, and Risk Growth, along with the trade-offs among access to your money, protection, and growth potential. Your annual review is a chance to revisit that mix considering your current goals, income needs, and circumstances.

Then we look ahead. What would you like to accomplish over the next year? Are you planning travel, a home project, or a transition into retirement? Do you anticipate needing additional income? Together, we discuss whether any adjustments deserve consideration and identify the next steps. Sometimes that means making an update; sometimes it means continuing with your current approach.

We also share our upcoming event schedule so you can stay connected and explore topics relevant to your planning. You can find dates, locations, and registration information on our upcoming-events page.

Your annual review is time set aside for you—your questions, your goals, and the decisions ahead. When you receive our call or letter, we encourage you to schedule a conversation. And if something changes before your next anniversary, contact your FMS financial professional so we can talk through it together.
